Why Use An Accountant
Why landlords need an accountant
Being a landlord is a proper job, and the paperwork never seems to end. There are rent payments to track, repair bills to file and tax rules that keep changing. A good accountant gives you that time back and keeps you on the right side of HMRC.
We work alongside landlords all year round, not just at deadline time. That means:
- You know where your rental income and costs stand while the year is still running
- Your expenses are recorded as you go, so nothing gets lost in a shoebox
- You get plain-English advice before decisions are made, not after
Making Tax Digital
Making Tax Digital for landlords: what it means for you
Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax changes how landlords report to HMRC. Instead of one return after the year ends, you send HMRC regular digital updates through compatible software, followed by a final declaration at the end of the year.
Whether it applies to you depends on your income. It is based on your gross income from self-employment and property:
- From April 2026: over £50,000
- From April 2027: over £30,000
- From April 2028: over £20,000
Getting set up, the easy way
If you are near or above those figures, it is worth getting set up properly now rather than in a panic later. Read more on how the £50,000 threshold works.
We use Xero for everything, and Dext Solo for landlords who need an easy way to capture receipts and keep MTD-ready records. Dext Solo and Xero automation does the heavy lifting, and we handle the rest.
